I recently had a professional mold remediator inspect my apartment for mold and test to see what kinds are in the air. Well come to find out the ac unit was full of mold and both toilets were leaking into the sub floor. In the report he gave me it says it would not be possible or healthy for me to live there while undergoing construction. I gave the report to the manager and had her make me a copy with her signature. Now they wont let me out of my lease and they are going to come in and fix the sub floor, which is rotted and most likely full of mold. I cant leave the apartment because we only have one car my husband uses it for work, what should I do NOT let them fix it? or what?

  1. Fixing the subfloor from a leaking toilet is pretty easy and quick (unless the damage is really bad, but if that were the case I suspect you would've noticed it sooner).  So, don't worry on it so much, they'll probably come in one day, bank around for a day or so and then be done.  There won't be alot of dust or debris from this and they should cart it all away when they go.  So just don't worry about it, this minor work in not going to make the apartment unhealthy.

  2. consult a engineer

  3. You can't have it both ways. . . .

You have to let them fix the problems you have reported to them

HOWEVER, READ your lease carefully. . . .very carefully

IF the apartment is uninhabitable, they probably have to put you up in a motel while the work is done. . . .most LL's insurance would even pay for this

So let them fix problems, but ask them to put you up in motel while so doing so that you don't have to breathe in more of the dangerous mold spores which will be disturbed by the work
