  1. Please consider the following:

FACT: The chance of strangulation over a three year period was found to be one tenth of one percent.

FACT: The chance of mild to severely debilitating pain (inguinodynia) resulting from mesh implantation (Hernia surgery using Shouldice for example) has been found (in some studies) to be as high as 30%.  These complications can result in testicular atrophy, for example.

FACT:  Very few doctors will ever remove a mesh, once implanted, even if it is causing significant pain.

FACT:  Hernia surgery is a one-way street.

    Now you know.

  2. I only can talk out of my own experience: I had an inguinal hernia about fife years ago and of course the doctor said that this must be operated as soon as possible otherwise it could be strangulated and I could die. But I rejected surgery even I had pain and it popped out. I investigated about an alternative way to heal my hernia. There was no information available a few years ago. I treated myself in various ways and after about one year I was completely healed. There were no symptoms coming back in all those years. So healing is possible, although it needs quite an engagement. I have made a Web page about my healing process and you can read all about it at: http://falconblanco.com/health/
after I was healed I created an hernia support group, you can join or have a look: http://groups.google.com/group/herniasupport?hl=en
There you can find more information and also you can have an exchange with others who are healing their hernia.

PS: Of course this is not an advice, I am not a health professional.
PPS: I am completely convinced that eliminating a symptom has nothing to do with healing. After I healed my hernia I am much stronger than before. Disease is a challenge and if we relate and respond to it, then this furthers our growing and healing process. Feeling as a victim and staying in dependency needs a change in ones attitude to be able to live ones life in a creative and responsible way. Or not?
