What should I do about my permit test?

I am 17 3/4 and have yet to take my permit test, if I wait until I turn 18 does it give me any advantages like skipping the permit test?

I have never heard of this, but I would suppose that it depends on the state that you live in if there is any such rule...  To my knowledge, everyone who takes a drivers test is required to take a permit test first.

Nope- I'm 20 and got my first permit when I was 17. My friend here is 21 with a permit- You have to get a permit first.
