Question:

What should I do about my pitching staff?

I'm currently ranked 3rd in a 12-team, 5x5 league. We run with 4 starting pitchers and 2 relievers. My lineup is nice, but my starting pitchers have been hurting me lately. I'm ranked close to last in Wins, ERA and WHIP.

Here's my team:

C McCann

1B Teixeira

2B Phillips

3B Atkins

SS Reyes

OF Hart

OF Kemp

OF Matsui

UTIL Victorino

BN Dye

BN Johjima

SP Oswalt

SP Cain

SP Wainwright

SP Burnett

RP Valverde

RP Soria

BN R. Johnson

BN Lilly

BN Scherzer

DL C. Young

Should I try trading one of my stud position players for a top tier pitcher? Or, should I be patient and hope my starters turn it around?

  1. u could try to trade reyes or phillips for a great pitcher. get rid of scherzer because hes not a starter anymore.  if he becomes a starter again you could always just pick him back up.  wainwright will get more wins so be patient with him.  get rid of the unit. u should try to only have one catcher so try getting rid of mccann. u could get a good pitcer for him if someone is lagging in that position.

    btw

the link u posted doesnt work unless the person is in the league

  2. I would trade for a top tier pitcher.  Lilly has been inconsistent at best.  Matt Cain has control problems and the offense hardly scores runs for him.  I think Oswalt will turn it around.  Burnett is also an inconsistent performer.  Also, looking at past seasons, it's probable that Johnson and Burnett will get hurt.  I think you'll be hard pressed to get W out of the starters.  Plus we are assuming that Oswalt and Cain will turn things around.  If they don't they will weigh down your ERA and WHIP along side Burnett.

  3. you

  4. Honestly, I think you're fine. In a 12-team league, your pitching staff is actually pretty good. Oswalt and Cain should turn it around. Wainwright is good and Johnson looks surprisingly good as well and gets lots of K's. Burnett will always be inconsistent, and Lilly has been a disappointment. I would either trade away Max Scherzer or Kenji Johjima. Since Scherzer isn't currently starting, he doesn't really have any value, he's just like a good middle reliever. There's really no point in having two catchers, so you can try to trade Johjima to a team in need of a catcher and get a solid SP in return.

    Hope I helped!
