What should I do about my tile dalema?

I want to redo my bathroom but I would like to keep the same tile on the floor because it is the same tile that runs in the laundry and foyer and it's only a few years ago we put it in. The color tile is a burnt orange and the grout is close to the same color. I would like to put tile half way up the wall in more earth colors, but because the grout on the floor will be a different color then the wall grout I thought that might not look right. What do you think and do you have some other suggestions other then ripping the floor out and starting with new tile. I'm trying to keep down the cost and the big mess it will bring. Thank You so much.

  1. If you have any of the old tile left, take a sample to the tile store and find a tile that looks good with it. That would be your best bet.

  2. Dilemma, no offense, and I don't see a major issue. I tile every day of my life, and since you state EARTH colors, but don't state any color of wall tile, the transition from floor to wall will hardly be noticed if you go darker, or similar in a coffee, or taupe shade grout.

I assume the wall tile will be different anyway? Yes? Which can either compound your confusion or settle it not stressing. That may be a Moot point certainly, if the wall and floor TILE are the same.

Beyond that is the notion that YOU may be the only one who knows of any differences. If anyone else is paying attention to grout colors and variations, then they may be TOO deep into OCD?

Depending on where you shop, Grout is probably offered in no less than 2 dozen color variations. I so often suggest "TEST" first.

Beg, buy, borrow or steal a sampling of a grout kit, or spend the money on a bag,,,which can be mixed by the way to lighten or darken any color, and mix/run a bead on a piece of cardboard, etc. Let it dry/set/cure, and lay it on the floor. EASY.

    Just my two "sense"

  3. Best thing to do here is to run a base row of tile and grout(black?) or even painted trim that will give you a separation line between the old and new.
