Question:

What should I do about my voice?

I was at band camp for a week and as a section leader I have to shout a lot. Now my voice went away and it's been coming back gradually. However it's been 5 days now and everything is normal except my head voice and falsetto are still very scratchy and cracky. Should I see a doctor or continue to wait it out? Is the damage bad?

  1. Try not to use your voice and if you must whisper.  Don't drink coffee, tea or soda because they are hard on your throat.  Drink water.  Take a multivitamin, get good sleep.

You will be back to normal soon.

For the future -  Learn to speak from your diaphragm and lower the pitch of your voice when you speak up.

  2. dont talk for a day

  3. Your vocal chords have been over- stretched and need time to recover, use your voice as little as possible for a week or so and no SHOUTING,, and things should get back to normal on their own.

  4. It will go away on its own.

  5. Well this has happened to me .. when i went to singing school ... and all i had to do is go to a specialist and they per scribed me medicaded that worked in 2 days

  6. Cracky a few jokes in the meantime, you will heal.

  7. Singers drink olive oil to help ease and loosen their throats.

  8. Give it a few days. i went to a place and yelled all day on the rides. Few days later my voice was fine =]

  9. I would say go ahead and go to the doctor. Better safe than sorry right?
