I am going into 9th grade and I have to choices for school. I can either go to a 3-day a week school or I can do A Beka, which is a homeschool curicculum. I would like to be w other kids my own age but I also love the convience of staying home everyday and doing school @ my own pace. Also I went to the 3-day a week school last year and I liked being in a classroom setting but it also wasn't very challenging for me. And if I stay home if something is too easy for me I can get something a little more hard. And the last thing is that I am a year round swimmer and my schedule is kind of challenging and I get migraine when I got too stressed which happens very easily. Please help me!!!! I dont have long to decide this.

  1. From all the information you shared, I'd go with Abeka. You can always add in social activities when you have time. And that's are more fun than sitting in class.

  2. I think you should go to school 3-days a week, to get used to being around and interacting with other people. You will need to do that when you work, it is good to start when you are young. If the courses in school is not challenging enough, choose more challenging ones!!!, like honors, AP, w/e. I don't know about you, but i procrastinate a lot when i don't have a due date. I am sure you will find a way to schedule school in, maybe just less time for hobby, but i am sure you can do it!

  3. I like Jana's answer best.  But it is totally your decision.  If you can get in contact with other homeschool students your age your problem should be solved.  Are there other kids your age to socialize with in swimming?  Do you attend a church supportive in homeschooling?  There are many ways to socilize besides school.  Good luck!

  4. What do you want most: spending that time in school with other people or an education at your pace? It's clear that if you go to the school, it won't be for your academics, so you need to decide which route will make you happier.

If you do decide to stay home, try to find things to do at least now and then during the day so that you'll get out of the house--things other than swimming.

  5. From what you've said, it sounds as if you should really go with A Beka. There are heaps of other ways for you to be with kids your own age besides going to school three days a week hence I wouldn't consider that to be good enough justification; it is not as if 'going to school' and 'having friends, a social life, being with other kids your age' are mutually inclusive!

Seems to me that you have far fewer positives associated with 'going to school' than with 'home-ed' (school: classroom setting; home-ed: more challenging, flexible schedule, easier to manage stress so fewer migraines.)
