I am looking at a 1 1/2 year old Pregnant cavy. She has been a breeder all of her life and I would love to give her a good home to live out her days, but I am worried about her surviving the birth. Does she have a chance? I have had guinea pigs before but have never bred them so I dont know if she will be OK, will she?

  1. If she's been bred before, she'll be fine during the birth.  It's only at 2 years old (without being bred) that their pelvic bones fuse.  Good luck.

  2. Your cavy should be absolutely fine. She has been bred before so she is use to delivering litters . Breeding and kindling  generally does not result in death. I have a friend who is top cavy breeder in the USA for silkies her's always have 2 - 3 babies. Your Sow should be fine. She is probably an excellent mother too. Just make sure that the babies are kept warm and that the Sow is feeding them. I'm sure she will. Baby cavies are adorable! Hopefully the person you are going to get her from is responsible enough to allow her to deliver and care for her babies before selling her but if that's not the case i would go online to the american cavy breeders association's web page where it can tell you how to care for a new born litter and the sow. Or just look it up online. ^.^ She will live no worries

  3. I would read over http://www.guinealynx.info/reproduction....

Good diet and lots of exercise will help. Poor sow. What an awful breeder to have backbred her constantly.
