Hi Guys,

I just got a brand new Canon SD870 IS. I was loving it until I found these freaking dead / stuck / hot pixels.

Ok, so the first thing I noticed were a few VERY, VERY small dead or stuck pixels on the LCD screen ONLY (didn't show up in the pictures). I could live with these.

However, I then switched the camera mode into video record, and noticed a big stuck or hot pixel right on the screen. It is very noticeable in dark videos.

You can view the video I took here:

Notice it is right near the top middle of the video. You can see it move upwards when digital zoom is used.

Here is an example of an image taken in complete darkness. The pixel is at 1722x367. I used a program to test for it.

What do you think I should do about this? Keep it? Return it to

  1. If the camera is new, Canon has option to replace the LCD or remap the dead, stuck pixels this depending on how may there are. I would ask for a replacement.

  2. Yes I would take it back and see what they will do for you. Stray artifacts are a problem in some cameras.
