What should I do about this dilemma?

Ok, I've been in band since 5th grade, I'm now in 9th grade. I played volleyball some since 8th grade. This past season I played on the developmental team since I am a beginner. My school has a great reputation for volleyball. Next year I'll be on JV so I'm going to quit marching band, but stay in concert band and do volleyball. After I told my director this he was upset and he sorta insulted me. I really want to pursue volleyball because I really enjoy playing. I tried to work it out so that I can come to band practice late or something because to me I can easily catch up on stuff, but my director said no even though he let people do that in the past years. He's been telling my band peers that I'm quiting and telling them to persuade me into staying in band, but to me this is a decision I can make and no one else but me. What should I do?

  1. i played volleyball from 7th to 12th grade....and i loved every min. of it!!....PLAY VOLLEYBALL...u wont regret it...and it will make you feel better about yourself...because ur working out and being active and in band all u do is sit there!

  2. Do what you have to do. Think about it-whats ore important to you:volleyball or the band? If volleyball is more important, you should quit the band. If band is more important, dont quit. If both are equally important, find another way to practice your instrument for band, and go to volleyball. Or, you can practice volleyball later on, and go to band.

  3. Simple...go with what you want to do and don't look back

  4. this was the same problem I had with my band. even though im in 8th grade only.... but since I knew I was very talented in playing my instrument I quit. I could easily get lessons and play with my friends whenever I want. Also I went with volleyball because its an exercise. So I play volleyball. and then when Ig et home I play the flute.

  5. ok i was in the same boat in the same grade. i loved band, but volleyball always made me happy. now if you think that you can use your musical talent in the future to help you, then go for it. but its your freshman year and i would just go with whatever. if you choose volleyball, you still got 3 more years to go back to band. dont stress yourself out over this. and apparently your director is just a jerk and i wouldnt put up with it. but thats just me...go for whatever you want honey!

  6. well, it sounds like your passionate about both. i had thew same problem and gave up band to pursue volleyball in high school. there are opportunities for both after high school, but how many? unless you're excellently skilled in your instrument and are in love with the music you make, then it's just a hobby you pick up and put down. in volleyball it's a similar scenario, but i've found it to be much more demanding and worthwhile. (btw i started playing my freshman year of high school on the freshman team. now i'm playing club and can never get enough of the game.) Band teachers are kind of angry, mine cussed me out and said i was about to make the dumbest decision of my life, and i thank him for making me walk out faster than i might've if he didnt. so take a deep breathe and think of your future, what do you picture yourself doing 3 years from now?

  7. do what you want to do

  8. Hey girl! I m kinda on the same boat as ya...I play vball on a club team and play the trumpet with a private instructor. Here;s my advide, in the end its up to you.  But, volleyball is REALLY tough and if your planning to play in college, you better start getting serious and doing your research.  But, dont give up playing your instrument, cuz there will be those tough days where you will need an outlet to go to.

PS: ur band director is the son of a b****
