well i am joining the team at my highschool and i am a freshmen.

I have never played before but i have been practicing for about a couple weeks by myself.

and i am not very good. i can not serve over hand, i have trouble setting, i can pass, but i do not have the best aim.

The highschool team has already been practicing for a couple weeks and i am going to my first practice tomorrow.

i am not very confident about how i play, but it is something that i really want to learn and play.

alot of the girls on the team have been playing for years and i am the newcomer.

any advice you can give me about training and tips you can give me so i don't look like a loser in front of the team.

thanks so much for any tips or advice!

  1. There isn't much I can tell you.  If one of your parents or a sibling is willing to help you and pass and what not, then do that.  Just keep practicing.  Don't worry about looking like a loser.  Everyone has to start somewhere.  The best way to get better fast is just to go to practice and watch other people and get advice from coaches.  Don't worry so much and just have fun.

  2. Keep working on everything, and you'll get better. You have to work extra hard to impress the coaches though, and you should probably consider practicing more.

You HAVE to learn how to overhand serve, or you basically have no chance unless you don't have tryouts. On my team you definitely cannot underhand serve.

  3. trust me EVERYONE looks like a total r****d when they first start playing vball...

yup just get as much practise as you possible can in and definatly get the other players to help you learn your steps for spiking and get your technique for serving...

a couple of tip 4 serving i can give u is to start with the ball in your left had with your arm extended straigh out infront of u and have your right hand ready and beside ur head with your fingers apart (keep your fingers stiff ) bend your knees as you throw the ball up (this will help keep it strait) pull your right hand back behind your head and hit the ball at the highest point you can reach it and finish with your arm straight and extended in the air..for a float serve hit the ball from underneath bt for top spin try and hit it from behind and almost over the top... make sure you dont throw it too far behind u or it wont make it over the net...

not sure if that makes much sence.. but thats how i serve... =]

    hope
