What should I do between now 8/14 and 8/26 when I start back to school at my college?

I'm bored out of my mind. I work, but not every day since my job is just part time. My husband is working most days (full time) and I have no friends in the town where I live. (I commute 45 mins one way to school.) I have friends in the town where I go to school, but with gas so expensive right now, I can't afford to go there until school starts.

What can I do until school starts to keep from being bored?

Why don't you look at volunteermatch.org to see if there are any volunteer opportunities in your neighborhood?  They often have one-day/short-term needs.  Many places can also use volunteers online.  It's an interesting way to get to know new people, learn some new skills, and see another side of your community.

Another option would be to go to the library.  Even if you haven't read a book for pleasure in a long time, you might be surprised how easy it is to be swept up by a good book (or you can choose something informative like about how to buy a house or whatever might be coming up in your life).
