What should I do for my bunny?

I have a 7 month old mini lionhead bunny. Recently her stool has been wet, dark and not really formed like it should be. Also she hasnt had much appetite for her fresh greens and carrots. I havent been doing anything different...at least i dont think so. Ive been putting more hay in her cage, I thought maybe that was a sign of not enough hay. but she seems to not be really eating more or much at all. She really likes her pellets and is always eating all of those. Does anyone know what may be wrong?

  1. what veg have you been offering her?

have yopu got any books on rabbits?

  2. take her to the vetrinarian

  3. Do not feed your rabbits fruits and vegetables!  It gives rabbits chronic diarrhea and ruins their digestive tract.  Hopefully it's not too late for your rabbit.  But stick with hay, pellets, and (every now and then) pineapple.

And trust me on the vegetables.  All the water in them cannot be absorbed in the small intestine.  Alfalfa cannot cause diarrhea since it has no water in it.

  4. I highly suspect she's getting too many pellets.Mini  rabbits should get no more than 1/4 cup of plain (no seeds, colored bits, raisins, banana chips, etc. in it) pellets per day!Too many pellets will cause a host of health problems.Rabbits evolved thru millions of years to thrive without pellets. This will leave her hungry  for

lots of good qualityTIMOTHY hay(not alfalfa) and some veggies like carrot tops, kale chicory, escarole, red leaf lettuce, parsley, etc.

No carrots (or just a 1/8 of a carrot  every other day or so if you must).Carrots are too high in carbs.Only 1 small slice of banana or apple. again too high in carbs.

The hay will cause her to have more well formed stools and she will feel so much better. Please believe me and see what the House Rabbit Society says:

As far as a check-up,I would take her to a rabbit knowledgeable exotics vet and have her get a thorough check-up.Teeth too!

  5. Okay its probably doin that because it might be sick or its probably growing more teeth you might want to take it to a vet so u know its alright and not sick.Hope i  help your bunny and you please pick me as best answer=)And keep an eye on it.

  6. try warmer/colder air? or take to vet.

and actually betsy, veggies like carrots and chard are good for rabbits, it is too much alfalfa that gives them diarrhea.

  7. i'd take her to the vet too

probably a diet of timothy hay is and veggies is what's best

    BUT check with your vet

if you can't afford a vet or are unable to go, i would try cutting out the veggies and just giving her hay and some pellets for th next day or so

    then see what happens

make sure she has lots of fresh water

  8. Take him to a vet http://homepage.mac.com/mattocks/morfz/r...

Could be diahrrea, coccodia or a number of other things.

  9. Take out the veggies and add more hay and only water, no pellets either, VET NOW
