What should I do for my daughter's 12 birthday party?

For my 11th or 12th, (I don't remember which, it was 15 years ago) I had a hawaiian theme for mine, all the girls got grass skirts to wear over their suits (we lived by a fairly clean lake) we had tiki torches, drank out of coconuts, had coconut cake (as well as a chocolate/vanilla) grilled seafood kabobs. It was a neat theme, I think, but 12 year olds these days might be into more pop-culture type things. Maybe throw a decade-of-the-past theme, 80's is a popular one this year (look at all the clothes now) 70's even 60's. Or...organise a suprise party and hope her friends can keep a secret.

I think that by that age most kids prefer to have a benihana dinner or a movie night or even a sleepover.

It depends on what she likes to do.  If she and her friends are girlie girls take them to get their nails done at a salon then take them out to dinner.
