What should I do if I find lost car keys??

I was going for a run and found some car keys on the sidewalk, with remote control. So I picked them up and ran around nearby streets hitting the panic button, to see if anything would go off. Nothing did. For now I left them where I found them in case someone comes looking, but they're just one block away from my house. What should I do?

  1. You could of taken them to the police station, or even dropped them off at a nearby post office..

  2. Cry

  3. how nice of you ! hang up fliers saying you found keys. let the caller describe them. maybe you'll get a reward. If not, you'll get really good karma points.

  4. Call police department and run a ad in the paper. The add is free.

  5. I'd recommend taking them to the local police station or perhaps taking out a free lost and found ad in the local paper. Car keys are often lost a couple ways: by having the person's pants pocket rifled and they fall out on accident, or being dropped out of a jacket pocket they might be carrying. You could also put a flyer up where you found them. Covering these bases would probably help the most. Good luck!

  6. take them to the garage which is the same make as the key (eg Ford)...they might be able to match the key to the car then contact the owner. by the way the owner should have spare keys and if they don't they'll get another set from their garage. as long as you keep the keys you can know that nobody evil has them so the car won't get stolen! leave notices around the place where they were dropped, keep the keys and wait for somebody to phone or do the first option i said. hope that helps x

  7. Report a description of the keys, and the location where you found them, to the local police and give them your contact number.  Also notify any merchants (shops etc) that are close to where you found them, that you found a set of keys and either give them your contact number or let them know to contact the police who will contact you.

If you have time, call the car manufacturer's customer service number (or a local dealership) so see if they can match the remote code to the vehicle it is keyed to.

Then sit back, feel GREAT about being an honest person, and prepare to receive good karma :-)

  8. You could take them to the police station. How ever it isn't likely that any body will call there for them but they might.
