There's a boy at my school that people don't talk to because they think he's unattractive (which is a totally STUPID reason, but I've heard people say things like that). I got to talking to him on Friday and I learned that he's an incredibly sweet boy and he's very smart; he's in all honors classes. While we were talking he seemed very happy. But at lunch later that day I saw him crying...

What should I do? Should I be friends with him?

I honestly think you should be the bigger person and befriend him. Like you said, hes a very sweet boy, and its not fair for people to judge him based on his appearance.

I believe that you should be friends with him. If you think that he is nice and you enjoy his conversation and company forget what everyone else thinks. It's not like he' s your boyfriend......

You know i think you answered your own question when you said he is a very sweet boy......don't fall into the i don't want to be friends with him because nobody else wants to.....if you liked him then by all means yes be his friend....and if you see him upset whether it is a friend or not see if there is anything you can do to help.....i would guess that would be what you would like if someone really upset you...
