What should I do this summer to prepare for volleyball (high school) in the fall?

My friends and I decided that we want to play volleyball this year coming up. We've done a little here and there in middle school and the beginning of high school...and we were interested...so we said, why not?

What could I do, over the summer, to up my game? I want to go to a camp, but they're so expensive. Can I do some stuff on my own? Like, does anyone know of a specific plan or work out routine, or helpful web site that can help me work on my game? My team isn't so competitive (code name for...they suck) and I'd like to help get them up to par.

  1. Lift weights and make your own practice schedule. The High School volleyball team that I know of practices twice a week for two hours after lifting weights for about an hour. Basically keep yourself...and your friends in shape.

  2. buy some ankle weights and go jogging for a while. i did and i can jump a noticable amount higher.

  3. Well, the only thing I can think of is for you to join a summer league since you cant afford camp. They're everywhere. Even if it is beach volleyball, it will give you a good workout to stay in shape and you'll increase your vertical jump and become more aware of court movement.

  4. sign up for a camp at a local school, and make sure you keep active over the summer too

  5. Practice makes perfect!

  6. play on the beach...train on the beach alot. If you can move fast on the beach in the sand...you can definatly move faster and easier on the gym floor. Also try playing one on one on a full court, the more ground you get use to covering the better off you'll be.(But be careful to become a ball hog)

  7. well you should get your own volleyball and possibly a net kit then practice with friends or with family either everyday or a couple of times a week. that is what i do!!!!

  8. well, I play volleyball and our school has off season and we run the track and we do a mile every Tuesday and Thursday. we run one lap in 2 Min and twice around the track under 4 mins and then a lap in 2 mins this helps to build endurance and after that we warm up our arms go practice at a community center and with a couple of your friends. You have to do sit up and crunches because 60% of hitting the ball is from your stomach. Hope that works some practices hitting and passing bumping because setting is harder than it looks. have fun and hope you make the time.

  9. go for good volleyball club where they teach volleyabll in professional way

  10. i'd say practice & more hitting and exersise as much as possible!

  11. run or get some friends over to pratice with you

  12. Train your legs like some jumping pratice drills. If you watch beach v-ball program 'dig', you can learn a lot of v-ball gym workout section from pros when they are not playing balls.

  13. Camps; Pushups; weights; running; make your own routine.
