My birthday is over Memorial Day weekend, so everyone is busy except for Saturday during the day until like 4pm. Anyone know of anything fun to do daytime in the Philadelphia area?

Food/brunch/activities/anything - we're up for it!

  1. My favorite places are Reading Terminal Farmer's Market -oooooh the pretzels are SOOOOOOO good. Hard Rock Cafe is right next door, Chinatown is about 3 blocks down from that and the Gallery is down the street for a birthday shopping spree.

  2. for brunch - go to Carmen's Country Kitchen.  Really tiny place - call before you go.  If you have a larger party, you can sit outside in the back of her pickup truck (there is a table).  It's a hoot!

1301 South 11th Street, Philadelphia, PA - it's right across from the Police station.  215-339-9613

  3. Philadelphia Zoo is fairly awesome if you're into that kind of thing.  Also the Franklin Institute if it's not nice weather and you were looking for something indoors.  Or you could always just hang out by South Street Seaport and do some shopping.

  4. Phillies game!(at night 7pm game) The Zoo is great for any age (I am 24 and want to go soon) I also love to eat at The continental Restaurant in old city- they have great martini's too! You could always take a walk down south street too. Hope you have a happy bday!

  5. Eat a big *** philly cheese steak, there bangin.

  6. Brunch is always good, but so over-hyped in this City (it's just an excuse to get drunk early) that it gets hard to find seating without waiting for an hour or more.

A favorite of a lot of people--even myself--is Honey's in Northern Liberties on like 4th and Brown.  Any later than 10am though, and you'll be sun-tanning on the sidewalk for awhile.

This is supposed to be a search for brunch spots, but it looks a little slim.  If you look to the right side for links though, you'll find a lot of great food blogs.

You could also check out the Art Museum.  It MAY be free but I think that's a Sunday thing.  Either way all of the cherry blossoms are out and the area looks great.  Assuming that Memorial Day Weekend ends up as nice as it has been around here lately, and I'd make it an Outside Day.

There are also a ton of stores and shops all along Walnut Street and some on Chestnut as well.
