  1. Do your best and play at 110 %.  If the coach is a good coach, they will notice how good you are and your committed to work beyond the average player.

  2. Call every ball LOUDLY.

Hustle on every play.  Even when your team is not.  An example is the hitting line.  Most people will walk or jog to get the volleyball and then get to the end of the line.  RUN to get the ball and RUN to get to the end of the line.  One thing it shows is hustle where your team is not.  Also, you will get more reps.

Never say anything negative while you are at the tryouts.  If you want to say something negative, wait until you get home in your room.  Always be positive with your team mates even though you are competing with them.  A positive attitude is VERY IMPORTANT to most coaches.

If your coach corrects something you are doing, tell the coach "thank you, I will work on that" and mean it.  No rolling your eyes or any faces like you can not believe they are critisizing you.

If you do the above things, you will get noticed by your coach.  If there are several players with roughly the same talent, the coach will pick the best attitude.

(Years ago, I worked with a player that did all of those things.  She was also the first in the gym and stayed in the gym after the lights went out.  She was worried about making the freshaman team in high school.  She emailed me that she was shocked when she made the JV team as a freshman out of the tryouts.  I told her that I was shocked too.  I was shocked that she was not on the varsity with her attitude and practice habits.  She thought I was crazy.  Two weeks later, she was on the varsity.)

    Attitude and hustle do matter.

  3. You should ask the coach to watch you, so then at least she knows that you are there.  Then ask her how she thinks you could improve.

  4. Wear a jock outside your shorts.

  5. Show enthusiasm, hustle a lot and work your tail off.  Lots of times, a coach will want at least one or two people like this on the team to help set the tone for the rest of the team, even if your talent isn't what somebody else's might be.  This also means not being afraid to go to the net and try to block the other team's spikes.

  6. In the tryouts u can try ur very best but of course be confident and DONT show off .. also if someone looks like they need help u should go over to them and help them out this way the coach will see that u'll make a great teammate ... =) hope it works , it did for me!

  7. Talent will definitely get you noticed, but a serious committment and an intense focus are the two things that really stand out for me when I'm going through tryouts. Also if you can learn all of the serve receive and defensive positions you'll be a very hard player to cut.

    Good Luck!

p.s. CALL THE BALL....all the time.

  8. at tryouts most volleyball or just coaches look for people who are there on time and there every single day. They look for people who have good sportmanship, hustles, gives at least 110% if not more, and they like people who listen and pay attention and ask questions. Juss try your very best and thats the best you can do.

    GOOD LUCK
