Question:

What should I do to get ready for freshman team tryouts?

Freshman volleyball team tryouts are in two-three weeks. What should I do to get ready? I don't have access to a gym, but I do have access to a pool. Also, please keep in mind, average temperatures everyday outside are 101 degrees. I've played about a year of club volleyball. Any tips?

I am getting ready for try-outs also.  Well i reccommend that you go for a morning jog at like 6am or at night with a friend. most schools have a jogging track so you can get in shape there.  Also probably most camps for vball are full by now, so c if u can get a private lesson from a volleyball club place near u.  Also call up some friends for pick up games.  play against a wall and have it bump back at you. Anything helps to get ready just try to stay fit and active and be prepared to run a lot during try outs.

  3. well, being a basketball player is the same ordeal. well, just go outside for just like 15 minutes at a time, and just bumb and set and spike with one of your friends, siblings, or parents. im sure if you want this really badly then you would figure out something.

I would definately work on bumping and setting with a friend.  You need to get your wrist used to constantly hitting a ball.  Also work on getting in good cardio vascular shape.  I would practice your serving whether it be under or over hand.  One of the omst important things to learn because of its value in lower level volleyball is serve receive.  Its one of the biggest thing coaches look at when picking teams.  If you cant return a serve you are useless to be on the court.  Good luck

  5. I myself tried out during freshman year and am captain now. I had to get into shape before trying out so I did a few drills. I had to work a lot on my passing(bump) and my arms would get so sore. Have a friend spike down the ball really hard and try passing it smoothly back to him/her as if he/she were a setter. Practice your passes like that. Now for spiking...I had a bit of trouble with this but nonetheless I did conquer it lol. Work on your jump for awhile and the pool is a great place to work your leg muscles in. Jump in the pool whenever you can to get your muscles working. Then when you think you have a bit of height in your jump...work on snapping your wrist as if you were spiking the ball down. Bounce the ball up and down but hit it down hard...snapping your wrist. It will help you when you get up to spike the ball. Next...serving...best way to get a serve across is to think about hitting the ball over the net...visualizing it and then letting yourself hit the ball with all the power you have. Sounds corny but it works. Just think about the ball going over....throw it up and take a step forward with your left foot(if you're right handed) and hit the ball...snapping your wrist again. You'll have a better chance at hitting an ace. This will get you pretty well into shape but you can't slack off. Good Luck!

Be able to run a mile in under 8-10 minutes; this will prove you are in shape.  Also, do 50 push-ups a day, 100 crunches, 100 calf raises, wall-sits for 2-5 minutes, work on your vertical jump (do jump rope or go outside or in your basement and try to touch a high part on your wall), and make sure you have enough strength to serve consistently.  

    Also, at try-outs, try to show you are a leader.  Volunteer to be the person who demonstrates a particular skill that you are especially good at.  Coaches like to see ability as well as leadership!!

  7. get up early in the morning when its cool and go to the nearest park or if u haf room in your back yard. for the first few days do some conditioning so your in shape, then work on footwork and other things like that while doing some minimal conditioning. this way you will be in shape and work on your footwork. i'm trying out right now so this is what my coach is doing to us. also remeber to eat healthily

  8. A drill I did at Dan Gable's wrestling camp in Iowa which I thought was a total waste involved a pool. Tread water for as long as you can using only your legs (hands above the water). When you can no longer do it, tread with just your arms/hands - keeping your legs straight and together. We had to do 30 minutes each way, but I guarantee you 10 minutes of each every day with strengthen you and increase stamina.

  9. Being a volleyball player myself, to get ready( my coach did this with us) Do 50 lunges but while doing that do bumps every time you kneel. Make sure you stretch. Don't want you to pull anything!

  10. Just go outside of your house and serve, set, bump, and hit at the wall of your house or garage door and do about 25 of these WELL.  Also, do some excersices like practice your tossing for your overhand serve.

  11. Well you can play volleyball in the water and practice set,passes to yourself,and in the afternoon when it cools down play volleyball to your wall or with friends and do all you can.
