I am going to grade 8 in September and I am going to take the IB test in order to qualify for the IB program. What are somethings that I can do to prepare for this program/test? Which subjects should I be most worried about? Should I start taking lessons now? Also, I happen to be in a rep soccer team, do you think this will affect my education at all? Please, help and advices with thorough thoughts will be appreciated.

  1. Pre-IB, which is anything before the11th and 12th grade Diploma Programme, is essentially a huge joke. If you've managed great grades in your previous classes, you will do great in 8th grade. Don't worry about it and enjoy your youth.

  2. itz not worth it.

plz plz plz. do not take it.

i dropped out 9th grade. colleges don't even count it as weighted grades anymore.

piles of stress, essays (more like a master's thesis -_-), tests, sleepless nights.....omgoodness and so much more.

    you have no idea.

just take ALOT of ap courses. they help more than an IB diploma PLUS you get college credit.

some of my friends are still in it, and they regret it

  3. im going to high school in the IB program but i didn't have to take the test a couple of years ago you did but not anymore. what i had to do to apply to it was write a resume and a 4 paragraph letter on why i should be in the ib program. but this is in canada dont know about the country your in,sorry.

  4. Hi,

I am in the same position as you, preparing for the IB is tough especially because there is hardly any information on the internet. What I am doing is subjects which I will do for IB. IE: since I am doing:

    HL: Chem Maths English

    SL: Economics Latin Biology

Since I am in Australia I will do all of these VCE in Year 10, so I will be prepared for it.

Another thing you really need to prepare for is TOK: Theory of Knowledge. There are heaps of links on that. It's basically an epistemology course (the philosophy of knowledge and philosophers brought it about). Read up on that and you'll be well prepared for it. That's what I am doing.

Also definitely keep your soccer. Part of IB requires you to do 150 hours over the 2 years of Creativity Action and Science, so Soccer would be great for that.

    Hope this helps.

  5. The IB test for me, was just a writing sample, they gave me a topic and you get 45 minutes to write on it, the topics are generally easy. Since you probably aren't going to the same school as I am, your test might be different. If it isn't all you really need to do is make sure you have a strong writing ability. I just got accepted last school year, I'm in 9th grade now about to attend IB. :D
