I want to learn how to play the guitar but I don't want to take online lessons or to go to class with others. How do I get an instructor that will come to my house and give me lessons or get private lessons?

  1. Go to some guitar shops and ask around...

  2. I know of very few guitar teachers who will come to your home and if they do, they will CHARGE more.

Check with your local music store and get some recommendations for teachers, many of whom will give private lessons at the store or in their own studio.

  3. Some music stores give lessons so ask about them. Ask if there's a teacher who gives private lessons and the employee will most likely give you that teacher's number (or they advertise lessons in the store somewhere).

  4. You could buy Guitar for Dummies.

  5. why not just teach yourself?

    online

learn basic chords, and practise playing songs.

a lot cheaper. i taught myself to play, then i went to lessons cause my mom wanted me to, but lessons didn't help, cause it was stuff common sense could figure out. I stopped lessons, and now i just play whatever i want to.

  6. When I first started out I got real frustrated... Didnt have the money to go to instructor taught in person lessons...It seemed like no matter what I tried, I was stuck because I had a physical issue (my fingers) not a learning issue (my brain). I stumbled upon a course I downloaded that was way better than the one I bought at the music store. I'd give it a try, I picked up my skill real fast once I got this and it taught me so much and helped me overcome my coordination issues.

  8. I'm a part time professional guitarist of over 40 years.  Suffice it to say I saw the Beatles in concert when I was a teenager.

The very best guitar instructor I have ever found is a gentleman by the name of Arlen Roth.  Sure, he's a hot electric guitarist, but he provides lessons in all styles.

He has a great easy going style and he makes his lessons easily understandable.

I have no connection with Arlen, but through the many instructional books, videos, dvd's, cassette tapes, magazine subscriptions I've poured over through the years, Arlen is a master at teaching.  He's the best out there.

I give him my highest possible recomendation.

Here's his website...read the reviews, decide for yourself...then click on "online store," then click on "books," then check out his " complete acoustic guitar."

Best of luck , and practice till those fingers bleed!  LOL
