What should I do/visit/experience in Leipzig, Germany if I only have 1 day

Good idea to visit Leipzig. Go to the Monument to the Battle of the Nations (=Voelkerschlachtdenkmal) - its a good vista point- and its a really interesting building, visit the Auerbachs Keller just go in but you don't have to eat there its a bit too touristy- in the Maedlerpassage http://www.maedlerpassage.de/eng/ - its a restaurant, the churches: Thomaskirche and  Nikolaikirche, Specks Hof , the parks are very nice too, visit the old town (Neues Rathaus and Altes Rathaus, Naschmarkt and the market place) You should go to the Moritzbastei its a pub. If you are interested in history visit the Stasi Museum and there are many interesting art galleries in Leipzig (for example: http://www.eigen-art.com/Ausstell/sh_08_...

Go to IlsesErika http://www.ilseserika.de/ilseserika.html its a club. You can go on top the MDR Hochhaus too- good vistapoint. The panometer is a giant round painting which could be interesting too - depends on your interests.

I like the Café Riquet (Schumachergaesschen 1) its a real typical coffeehouse. If you don't know where to sleep: the Lindner Hotel would be my first choice. http://www.lindner.de/en/LEI but its not so near to the old town. Or look here http://www.hrs.de
