Question:

What should I do when dealing with the cable company?

I live in Central Pennsylvania and cannot get the Comcast Philadelphia coverage. Instead, my community is stuck with Comcast Mid-Atlantic, where we can watch the Capitals, Nationals/Orioles, and Wizards instead of the Phillies, Flyers, and 76ers.

Yet, my community gets advertisements for the Philadelphia Comcast Sportsnet, and we get Philadelphia blackouts although we do not recieve coverage of those blacked out games on local television.

I have called in and complained, as have many others in my community but they will not listen to our complaints. They just say they submit complaints, but I seriously doubt they are doing anything. How would you organize a frontal attack on the cable company to get our rightful sports coverage?

What would you do?

  1. First, in many localities, the cable company is granted the right to service the area by a local governmental authority, like the County or Town. If that is true in your area, then get a petition together and take your complaints to them.

Second, look into alternatives like Dish or direct TV.

  2. My friend is from Central Jersey where I am, He moved to Delaware. He gets no Giants or Yankees until I got slingbox and now he can view all the Central Jersey Sports on his computer !  If you have a friend in the Philly area maybe you can use Slingbox and still watch all your favorite shows that way.

  3. I would see if Verizon or Directv is available to you.   And get the sports packages that they offer.

  4. Try calling the teams involved.  If they get enough interest, they may approach the cable company for carriage.

There is also satellite.  Cable companies don't like losing customers . . .
