Question:

What should I do when my dog whines?

My family and I are quite busy, now that the summer is ending. However, that doesn't keep my 3-month old Maltese from whining all the time.

After about 3 minutes we put her into her cage, she starts a high pitched whining every single time. I feel really bad and I want to play with her, but I'm just too busy during the day. What should I do to ameliorate this whining or even eliminate it alltogether?

Thanks in advance.

  1. throw her off the window... it doesn't takes a lot of time and it will eliminate the whining

  2. The best thing to do is just completely ignore the dog when it's whining... Don't take it out the cage (unless it's time to be taken outside), don't talk to it, don't even make eye contact with it. If you do this it will stop associating the whining with it getting you to react to it. This has worked for everyone I've suggested it to. You have to be strict with it though, even one reaction to the whining & the dog will start to revert to the old ways.

  3. If she is whining from being put in the catch, then ignore her (unless she's hurt, of course...) I had the same problem when I got my Yorkie. She hated the cage and would whine all the time when I put her in there. You have to ignore her so she can get used to it... giving in will not help the situation...

  4. Get another dog, have someone give it company. Ignore. They have classes at petco and pets mart.

  5. Be patient.  This is a very young puppy.  As you know, puppies demand almost as much attention as human newborns.  If you cannot give her the attention she deserves, return her to the breeder or surrender her to a Maltese-specific rescue or a small dog rescue.  A 3 month old puppy will have no problem bonding with a new family.

If you plan to keep her, ignore the whining IF you are sure she is ONLY whining for attention.

However, dogs will whine if their needs are not met - bathroom, food/drink, exercise, and social needs are all vital.  Puppies need to be let out as frequently as every 30-45 minutes.  And, of course, they need affection and exercise.  If you want to stop the whining, wear her out with some playtime.  A happy, tired dog is a quiet dog.

  6. Dont be mean or try to hurt the dog! Just say shh! or pet the dog or just calmly say its ok.

Be nice and quietly calm the dog down.

  7. find her a new home if you do not have time,, the baby is only 12 weeks old, has the bladder the size of a pea.. and needs to go outside every 30 minutes all day long

  8. I think it would be smart to train your dog not to have a cage. I have a dog too, and she hated going into the cage so we trained her so she could stay out of it all the time without getting into trouble at night and when we weren't watching her. This made her much happier to have the open space! Also, pet her whenever you can! Even if you are on the computer or watching TV or something, just make sure she gets some sort of attention. Another solution would be to get another dog so she would have company..but you might not want to go that far.

  9. well for a start shes a puppy. all puppys cry because they want attention.

just ignore her and she will get used to it.
