What should I do with a bear that is trepassing in my yard

Question

I have no idea why he is there but I have observed him jumping over my fence into my yard. I dont want to kill him so what can I do besides calling animal control.Anything that resembles food have been removed

You would be best advised to call animal control and see what they recommend. They are trained to deal with this kind of problem. Have you tried stringing up some noise makers around the fence for when the bear climbs over, sort of like an alarm? Good luck to you and the bear.

Bears HATE loud noises. A whistle or a childs cap gun will send them scootin'.

The problem?

If you scare them off in the day they will just come and hit your trash cans at night, (trust me I know).

Thats when you call the DNR/F&W (like what Gimme proposed)...

Try to scare it away every time it enters your yard. Don't go out and confront it (obviously), but you can go to a window and blow a whistle, use an air horn, or bang a couple of pots and pans together. Bears don't like noise, and eventually it will be conditioned to associate your yard with unpleasant stimuli, and will learn to avoid it.

Actually, animal control probably can't do anything for you. If I were you, I'd contact my state's Fish and Wildlife Commission or Department of Natural Resources. Animal control is for small animals (Heck, where I'm at they won't even come out and set live traps for cats or catch dogs, you can rent a Hav--a-Hart from them for $20, but you have to have whatever it is contained for them... out tax dollars at work, huh?).

First off you need a stick about 6-8 inches in length.  Then when you see the bear you grab the stick and run up to the bear and poke it in the eye with the stick shouting "Hey Mr. Bear, get out of my yard"!!!   That should do the trick...lmao
