Question:

What should I do with my Center Channel?

I just upgraded my TV to a 46" LCD but I'm having trouble finding a stand that has room for my components (tuner, tivo), games console, and center speaker. I had been resting the center channel atop my rear projection TV but that isnt' an option. Any suggested solutions or stands?

  1. Wall mount the HDTV (at a height so your eye when seated in your normal viewing position is about 1/3 to 1/2 way up the screen) and put the centre on a shelf below it or on a stand on the floor, then put the components on a vertical stand off to one side or even in a closet.

If the centre has more than one midrange consider placing it vertically (not horizontally) angled vertically toward your seating position. This reduces dropouts in the horizontal soundfield caused by interaction between the two speakers (and which result in some listeners sitting in a null). See article at first link. I built a wood stand for my centre (See picture at 2nd link).

  2. I have the same problem. My DLP is not deep enough for the center to rest on. So I put it on the floor in front of the TV and use 2 rubber door-wedges to angle it up.

  3. Wall mount it, if that's not possible try upgrading to a Samsung HT-tQ85, which I have... fit's on top of my TV perfectly
