What should I do with my pets if Lake Charles, LA gets evacuated?

I live in Lake Charles, LA and there is a good chance that we may have to evacuate because of Hurricane Gustav. If there is a mandatory evacuation, what should we do with our pets? I have two cats and a hamster. Thanks in advance!

if you love them, take them.  i watched in horror all the pets stranded during karina.  not that it was the per owners fault, but if you have the time to pack, make sure that you don't food, water, litter, and blankets. treats are always good too.

You have to bring them with you. my son has a turtle we are taking with us. Remember, you should only have pets that you can care for. We are evacuating today.

you should have a carrier for each of your animals.  

i guess if you dont have time to buy carriers, you could use a box for each of them.  try to cut some slits so they can see out.

make sure the cats have collars with their name/address/phone number tags and rabies tags on them.

pack a first aid kit for them:

-any meds they need

-food in a tupperware container

-some litter for the cats

Take them w/ you!!! 2 cats and a hamster can easily fit in a car, go to a hotel room, or anywhere else. just have their supplies w/ you.

Take them with you, I'm in S.C., I have a cat and dog they have their own evacuation kits, the cat has a hard cover crate, litter, plastic bags, a small box to use as a litter box, I'll put the plastic bags over and add the litter, his food and meds.  My dog has a hard create, potty pads, her food and meds.  I have vet records for both just in case I need them.  I also have a larger create for the dog, just in-case I can't let her out at all.  I have a plan for any motel or hotel and I'm sure they'd let me in with them.  I'd leave photos or clothes before I'd leave them.

Take the cats and hamster with you. I'm sure the hamster has a cage, try and get one or two for the cats. Gustav looks very nasty, do not leave your pets behind. By the way, hello Lake Charles! I lived for quite sometime in Beaumont TX. Good luck and get back with us when you are safe...
