Question:

What should I do with my portable TV after the changeover to digital?

My portable TV cost 100 bucks from radio shack. It can't take cable-in, so the converter box thing is useless. Also, the coupon is only a discount coupon, it probably won't cover the entire cost of a converter box.

suggestions?

  1. If your TV doesn't have composite inputs either, your choices are somewhat limited:

    1.

Give it to someone in Canada or Mexico. Canada isn't switching over until 8/2011 and Mexico isn't switching over until a long time from now.

    2.

Give it to me! Seriously. I think I could find a way to make it work with a converter box, perhaps with a couple of capacitors for ground isolation and maybe a matching transformer.

But I don't have one to play around with.

    3.

Wait a while. Someone will probably write an web article on how to match a converter to these portables.

With even the smallest converter it would be a bit bulky and they are kind of power hogs for small battery operation. Plus you still need an antenna.

    4.

Of course, it might break before 2/18/09 in which case it doesn't matter.

  2. Hi, I suggest if your tv has the red/yellow/white inputs, buy a converter box from walmart (only $10 after coupon discount) then buy an antenna connect to back of the converter box, use the red/yellow/white cables to input on tv and to the converter box and set the tv to input mode.

  3. After the changeover, throw it away.....

  4. Well...there's really not a whole lot you can do if it doesn't have any inputs of any sort....sell it or something while you still can!
