I have this rat named gus and he is adorable, but I don't hold him that often because im nervous, but I pet him in the cage and he gets exercise. I would like to get him a fun cage but has to be under 50 dollars. -im only 13 or i would get something more expensive.

Do you guys have any suggestions for what type of cage I should get at Petco? -because im going there tomorrow.

the main point is that i want my little Gus Gus to be happy so if you have any suggestions, PLEASE tell me.

pictures from petco on what cages would be good.

THANK YOU YAHOOOOOO!

  1. get the my first home rat cage from petco.  dont be afraid to hold him, they are very social little animals.

  2. you shouldn't be afraid to hold him he wont hurt you! Rats are big softies lol. The biggest bestest thing that could make him happy is another rat! You should get one of them when you go to the pet store, along with the new cage. Rats should never be kept alone its just cruel so unfair.

    Things to make him happy:

    Tubes

    Tunnels

    Boxes

    Shredded Paper

    Chew Things

A Friend!!!!! (he really needs a rat friend)

  3. In order to get your rat more comfortable with you, you will need to hold him and let him get used to you. I have written many articles on rats, go here...

and read them to help you with what you can do with rats.

  4. I have 3 rats, my kids and i give them all kinds of small toys to chew on and sometimes we put branches with leaves or flowers in their cages and they crawl all over them, my first rat i had i use to hold him for an hour every day he would run thru my shirt or ride on my shoulder so the longer u have them the friendly and moreloving they become, u can always wrestle him with your hand

  5. He'd be much happier with a cage-mate of the same s*x for one, make sure you introduce them properly though because male rats are territorial.

and as for the cage, try martins cages, they're great quality and pretty cheap.

(I'd do the rat high-rise, it's $50 even (not including shipping, though), and perfect for 2 rats!)
