Question:

What should I do with my turtle?

So I've had this turtle for about a year. It's pretty big but it's aquarium is sort of small and I feel bad for him. I've got a water filter but he still has stuff on his back and all over the floor of the aquarium. I was wondering if I should let him go. My family thinks I should but I don't know if he could find his own food or would get eaten or something. What should I do?

  1. Do a search for turtle rescues.

Do not release it to the wild .

Its illegal and he may not live.

  2. Please DO NOT RELEASE IT! Give it away somewhere, but do not release it!

The problem is- it may not live. The bigger problem is- it might live! If it lives, it will disrupt the natural ecosystem in many ways. Releasing pets into the wild is almost always bad for the local animals.

In fact, it is SO BAD on the local animals, that many groups say it is better to euthanize an animal than to let it go. I am not saying that is your best option- just showing what a bad idea releasing it is.

You can try your local animal shelter, or search online for animal or reptile rescue groups, etc.

  3. Keep on mind that Turtles live to over 100 years..So 1 year still very young and perfect for the turtle to adapt to a new environment...You can release it to a pond, preferably on a golf course..  Golf course are man made and full of fish her the turtle to eat.

  4. feed it umm that luchious turtle loads

  5. Either take responsibility for him and buy him a larger tank and keep it clean, or contact local rescues or shelters or herp vets to find places that may take him.  Chances are pretty slim he'll be able to survive in the wild.

  6. RELEASE, IF ALL GOES WELL, YOU'LL HAVE BABY TURTLES IN A LITTLE OVER SIX MONTHS.
