Question:

What should I do with this cat?

The past few nights I have had my window open so I don't get too hot. I have been hearing a cat that is literally screaming. It meows really load. I live in a 'circle' of town homes. There is a pond in the middle.

My question is:

Should I go to the other side of the pond and see if the cat is there?

or Should I just leave it be?

The cat sounds like it's in a cage so I don't need to worry about getting hurt.

One more question:

If I get the cat should I go to the front door and ask the owners if I can take it to the Humane Society so it can get a new home?

or Should I just take it and hope the owners don't put up Lost Cat signs around the neighborhood?

Thanks in advance.

  1. Definetly check it to see what it is. It could be an abandoned cat, and in that case, take it to the Humane Society. You could also ask the other neighbors if they have a missing cat or have heard of one.

  2. If you think it is in a cage and it sounds like the cat is meow/ "screaming"  then report it to the rspca as they will come and check the cat out and if it aint in good health then they will take the cat to rehome it!!!

    Hope this helps :]

  3. Just check on it a see what's wrong with it. Then go from there.

  4. There is a very good chance that you are hearing cats mating, but it could just be a cat howling too.  We have one that screams when she sees another cat outside (even though she is safely inside).

If it is bothersome, and you are sure it is a stray and not your neighbor's cat, call animal control.

If it is your neighbor's cat, you need to talk with them about keeping her indoors.

  5. take it to the Humane Society so it can get a new home.

  6. deff check the poor thing maybe it's just very lonley hungery hurtt could b anything please check it out

  7. It could very well be mating or fighting, but I'd go check on it anyway. If you haven't heard cats during their mating rituals it can be a very scary sound! Can't hurt to be safe and check it out though.

You can take it and post "cat found" signs if it looks like a cat trap and not a cage. Keep the cat a few days and if no one claims it give it to the humane society. Might even have a collar and tag. If the people are keeping the cat in a cage outside with food and water then they are really doing nothing wrong, but you could bring it up to them. I'm willing to bet you just heard a cat in heat though. ;)

  8. Don't just take the cat.  That is theft.  Ask around about who owns the cat.  If no one does, then take it to a shelter.  You are covered by asking everyone about ownership.  If the animal is stray or abandoned, then it is not theft.

Sometimes, when people are neglecting an animal, just knowing that someone has noticed will encourage them to take better care of the animal.

Keep in mind that cats will loudly vocalize when they are fighting, mating or are in heat.  It often sounds very pitiful, but is normal.

  9. Cats howl at night its what they do.

Its that "time of the month' and once mating season

is over with I am sure it will all be quiet again.

  10. id deffo check 2 see if the cat is ok and if it is locked in a cage id confront the owners.. cuz you shud neva lock a cat in a cage. then id ring up the rspca 4 info

  11. It could be cats fighting or mating but if it is one cat in distress please go check it out.  Good luck.

If it is being neglected just take it and report the owners.

  12. Do you know for sure whether the cat is in a cage, or do you just think it is? If the owners do have it outside in a cage and it's disrupting the neighborhood, you should politely voice your concerns to the owners and ask that they take the cat inside at night. If they refuse, maybe you should contact the authorities. It's just like a noisy dog barking in the neighborhood disrupting the peace.

However, normally when cats "scream" like that, it's because they're in heat. It can last a week or two.

Whatever the reason for the "screaming" you need to give her owners the chance to rectify the problem before you snatch her up and take her away. They may not know how disruptive she's being. Good luck!
