What should I eat 2-3 hours before a 5k, and when should I eat my powerbar???

  1. First, make sure that whatever you are eating before the race is easily digestible and is a small portion (probably already knew that).  For racing, the most significant energy you'll need is what you have already stored up.  

    Training is when you need to pay the most attention to nutrition.  After your run your muscles will start breaking down.  You have about a 30 min window to replace what you will lose.  Most pros go for 3 main product:  Endurox, Optimum Whey protein shake (with BCAA's), or Accelerade.  

    For your race I would make the powerbar the portion 2-3 hours before your race.  You don't want your body wasting too much energy on digesting.  Good luck!


  2. In my opinion, there is no need for a power before a 5k race. They are full of calories and you will not burn that during a 3 mile run. Power bars are for very long runs and weight lifters. Just eat a good breakfast and drink a lot of water. You will be just fine.

  3. eat lots of fruits and crackers. also drink Gatorade to hydrate you and water to do the same. you should eat your power bar about an hour 1/2 before you start running. good luck :]
