My husband, who is Tunisian, and I have a visa interview coming up. Here's the story in a nutshell:

I was living in Tunisia for almost a year before we got married (I am a teacher), we got married last September, we've lived together since, and we applied for an I-130 petition for family member in December. Our first batch of papers was immediately approved and we were given the next batch. My husband was also directed to have a medical exam, which he did. His interview was postponed, and is now coming up next week.

He's 22, has no criminal record, and his family is wealthy - so I don't foresee many problems, but what I don't know about is what kinds of questions he will be asked in this, his first interview. We just want to feel prepared.

  1. The main purpose of the interview is to determine whether you are true married couples or not. They will ask the immigrant some questions they think every one will know about his/her spouse. Such questions include, where and how they met, where petitioning spouse lives and works, how often does the couple communicate and in what means (Phone, email, air mail, etc). The consular officer will follow the answer and if he sees the interviewee hesitating, that is his end. He needs to be very confident. I know for sure the first question will be "Why are you traveling to the US" and he should say "To live with my beloved wife" or something similar. Remember, the biggest trick is to stay calm during interview.

  2. Just be relaxed...they ask about your relationship, and if you or him a member of a illegal organisation..nothing realy special..rabbi maakum!!

  3. gathering from your summary I do not see a problem, please be relax and answer any questions asked truthfully. all questions will be applicable to you so the answers are answers you already know
