What should I expect from customs at Heathrow?

I am travelling from Dallas/Fort Worth airport (USA) to Heathrow (London) September 2. This will be my first time every flying internationally and I am so nervous. What should I expect from customs? Do I need to do anything when I go to DFW for the departure? Also, when I get to Heathrow, what should I expect from their customs? What will be the process? I ask, because I don't want to appear like a confused tourist there. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

heathrow is h**l on earth, unless you have been there you will alwys look bewildered and tourist-y. My best advice would be to take the bare essentials, and always reply in a clear tone. They hate it if you mumble or say errrrmmm. Do not take food or drink, and remember to declare absolutley everything that culold be conceived as a threat, yes they do think that a toothbrush will explode so watch out. I'm sorry but there is no way to prepare for the onslaught of political correct-ness and the confusing demands of heathrow airport customs.
