So I'm leaving for college in less than 2 weeks. I'm pretty excited about it. I havent really been sad about it excpet a couple days agao looking through my yearbook and I shed a small tear. Nothing major but I did shed a tear. But I'm excited about this next phase in my life and I just would like some advice from other people that have been through this experience. I'm only 2 hours way from home so thats cool in the sense that if I really feel the need to go home I can just catch the bus. I actually plan on going home for my birthday weekend in September. (I know its early to go home but its my 18th b day and I got family comin in from out of the country so I gotta be there. lol) But other than that I dont expect to be back home until Thanksgiving. But yea. I'm only a little worried about classes being harder and the workload and stuff. But when I visted my school I realized that there are people there that can and are willing to help you as long as you go after it. The professors seem cool too. Like they arent what people say about them. Like how they wanna fail you and how they laugh at you when you mess up and stuff like that. So that comforted me a lot. The other thing I worry about is my freedom. Especially when it comes onto food. I have money to buy what I want. I can eat whenever I want. The campus' food is great and there are alot of other food places just minutes away from campus. I need to lose weight and I have been losing weight (about 20 pounds since June) so thats good. But I know I just have to value my life and eat right. Enjoy certain foods on occasion. Not Popeyes every night :) But I'm just excited about school over all and the people I have met on Facebook are really cool and friendly. I would just like some last minute advice in these last few days before I go to school. Thanks everyone for reading this and helping me out :) lol!

  1. Freshman year is exciting.  Lot of new opportunities and experiences.

I think you'll find that your classes aren't necessarily harder.  But what is hard is that nobody is making you go.  You have to be responsible for your own actions and decisions because you don't have your parents right there insuring you're doing the right thing.  You have to decide what you're going to allow in your life, food or otherwise, and you have to make sure you stick to your decisions.  Time to hold yourself responsible!

You're going to have a great time, my freshman year was one of the best in my life!

  2. College is whatever you make of it. I know that sounds corny and completely useless, but it's the truth!

You seem to have a really good outlook on things - you're ready to move on to this next stage of your life, you understand the level of independence, you're realistic about the work load, and you have a generally healthy outlook!

My advice is go to class, don't be afraid to change your major, keep in touch with your family and friends, and have a good time! I like to think of college as the most acceptable time to be "selfish" in your life because it's meant to be the time when you figure out who you are and what you want to do with your life - so indulge a little! :)

Have fun and good luck. :)

  3. i don't remember much of my freshman year of college to be honest.  just remember that vodka doesn't have carbs and going to class is the key to passing a class.

  4. Freshman year in college is good, fun...I gained about 8 pounds though. Just because all there was to eat was fast food, but you meet alot of great people that will probably carry on throughout your life.

I thought that I could just breeze through all the classes like I did i high school, but I was in for a rude awakening. It is harder & DONT procrastinate.

    hope this helps

    have fun!
