What should I expect on my first visit to Dubai?

I've seen online and pitchures about dubai and how beautiful the place is, but I never been there before and am curious about going. Also there's a muslim guy that lives there that I met online in 2006 that wants me to come there for a visit. The thing is though, I don't want to come over there for him because of what I heard about how muslim men treat women and them not believing in jesus christ. So I wanted to know from those who visited dubai before on what is needed to go there, and the cost, as well as what you can do there. Thanks

In addition to the others' replies,

try to enjoy your trip. Dubai is the shopper's heaven.

And for the religion, of course they believe in Allah and they follow Prophet Mohammad as their guide. So what is wrong with this?

And they do not do anything strange or harm their women.

Each religion has its own rules etc. If you are Christian you are not obliged to follow or obey Muslim rules. On the other hand, you are expected to respect others' religion.

Also dress conservatively, revealing clothes can be disturbing for you and your friend(s).

Muslim men aren't bad to women, those are just stereo-types.  Please don't go around Dubai being paranoid or scared.  There are a lot more non-arabs than you think.  If you want to visit your online friend, go ahead.    And FYI, Muslims DO believe in Jesus Christ, just in a different way.  Without getting in too much about religion, just try to have fun, shop, eat, explore...it really is a great city!  And while you're there maybe you could learn a bit more about Islam, 'cause it doesn't sound like you've got a great understanding of it... And get over the little phobia you have, or you won't have fun there.
