What should I expect?

So I am going to try-out for my high school play in September and I was wondering want can I expect because this will be my first time trying out for one of my high school's play's and I want to be like an actual character not just an extra (I don't want lead thought. there is no way I’d do lead). I know that I can act and all it's just that I am scared. also what are some things that I can do to prepare?

some notes:

1. I don't know what play my school is doing

2. there is no material to memories. I don't think anyway.

3. I have taken drama up till grade 10

  1. You should find a couple monologues, drama, comedy, romance, etc, to memorize. Probably a song too, just in case it's a musical. You'd want to get those prepared, and once you find out what play it is, you pick the best monologue to go with the play, and if it's a musical, you've already got a song ready! Basically they'll just ask you to perform your monologue and song (again, if it's a musical). Then they might have call-back's a few days later, or they'll just post the cast list.

  2. Every school is different.  But I would assume you would need a monologue or two and a couple songs one up beat, one ballad, and one personal choice all preferable show tunes.  That is usually what is needed in most theatre auditions as well as a possible cold read, where they would provide a portion script for you to act out with them.
