I am single, no dependents, work FT averaging about 14K a year. Should I file 0 or 1? Also, would I have to pay out taxes at the end of the year? I live in NYS.

  1. You can claim 0, which would mean you'd be more likely to pay a bit more in taxes now, but get a bigger refund later.  You could also claim 1 exemption for yourself, and should break even (approximately) come tax season.

  2. Claim 1 allowance.

About the allowances you should claim on W4: http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/02/fili...

  3. If you are a dependent, claim 0 on your W-4, otherwise claim 1.  You shouldn't owe at the end of the year.

  4. you can claim yourself (1) if nobody else (parents) claim you.
