My best friend and her family are moving to Canada. I want to get her a going a way present. She will be attending college there too. What should I get her? I want to get her something that will be useful in Canada. Canada related. Are there any Canadians out there that can help me? lol.

  1. haha. well, when i was in college we had this girl in our class from japan. she was sick pretty much the whole first semester and missed almost all her classes because she wasnt used to the horrible cold of canada (admit it, its cold here =P ) so i would suggest some warm winter clothing as cheesy as you may think that is.

  2. well, unfortunately, i'm not canadian. lol.

but if i were your friend, and i was leaving for canada, the best thing a friend could get me would be anything heartfelt and sincere.

i'd suggest you get her something really personal and meaningful. maybe an old inside joke, or gag gift, something to make her feel good. that way when she's away at college and starts to get a little homesick and miss ya, she'll always have it there with her. how much more helpful could you be? ha, just a thought. good luck! (:

  3. A [paper] address book, filled with all possible phone numbers, addresses and emails. Liven it up with some photos of your friend with you and her other friends.

  4. What I would do is put together a lot of things she won't be able to get up here...kind of a care package of memories.  Get a basket and pack it with chocolate bars that we dont have up here, or things she likes that we dont have.  (Bath & Body works stuff)  You could put those in with pictures of all of your friends and ask each friend write a special memory.  To lighten the mood, throw in a toque (knit hat) so she will "stay warm" and some slippers.  (when I was in college, dorm floors were nasty!)

Or if you want to go just practical, a nice bath robe is she will be living in residence.  Or a nice daytimer.  (the kind she can refill every year)  Write down all your friend's birthdays on the pages, and all your phone numbers in the back too.
