I'm throwing a surprise birthday for my mom's 50th this upcoming Saturday. I have no clue what to get her, she's a fan of Elvis if that gives you any ideas. I want to get her something nice but i dont know what. One part of my birthday gift is that I'm giving up smoking, because she's been wanting me to quit for a long time.

And dont tell me to spend time with her cause she's at her wits end with my brother so I want to get her something physical

Thanks in advance

  1. i went shopping the other day and i say an Elvis poster that was attached 2 an Elvis CD.If she likes Elvis maybe u should get her something of that nature. Hope this helps!!!

  2. Buy her a day at the spa. Since she's older she'll appreciate something like that more, and being able to relax.

  3. Guess there is a  lot of us turning 50 this year.  I just want some piece a quiet. Take your brother out to a movie or something to give mom a break, or better yet, take mom out to a movie without little brother. The quitting smoking thing is probably the best present you can give her.

  4. I agree that quiting smoking is the best thing you can give her but if you really want to give her something and she's having a party why not an Elvis impersonator

  5. at target they have cool elvis pez dispensers. thats all i can think of

  6. First of all, don't give her ANYTHING that refers to her age!  lol

You didn't say how much you wanted to spend or what sort of things she likes besides Elvis.  But my suggestion would be something like a computer - or upgrades for the computer she already has.  Maybe a digital camera or a camcorder.  Perhaps a new cell phone.  These are all great gifts and things she can actually use and enjoy -- unlike some kind of knick-knack that sits on a shelf and gathers dust.

If you want to get her something more personal, consider a personalized item of some kind.  You can have a picture that's special to her put on a shirt or coffee mug, or get her a blanket that tells her what a wonderful mother/grandmother she is, or a personally engraved locket.  Here is a page to give you some ideas:  http://www.thingsremembered.com/webapp/w...

If she wears earrings regularly, then a pair of really nice pearl, diamond, or other gem stone earrings would be a nice gift.  But only if she normally does wear earrings.  Otherwise they'll stay hidden in her jewelry box...

And speaking of jewelry boxes...  If she doesn't have a nice one, you can get her one and put some wrapped gifts inside it - like a couple pairs of earrings, a locket, a heart necklace, etc.

If you're tight on cash though, do check out that site.  They have some very nice things decently priced - and don't forget to look at the clearance page!  Regardless of the price, engraved items are special because you had your own sentiment engraved on it for her.

I think it's wonderful that you're quitting smoking too!  I know she will be very happy and proud of you, and I wish you the best of luck!

P.S.  Happy Birthday to your Mom from me too!!!

  7. I found myself with the same problem. So I bought a basket and filled it with toys my mother had enjoyed as a child. Coloring books, crayons, ball and jacks, jump rope, blow bubbles etc. And gave this to her with a note saying that as she was entering her second childhood, these were things she'd be needing. She was thrilled, and had a great time playing with the grandchild with her gift. Since your mom's an Elvis fan you could throw in an Elvis cd or two. Or a cheap mp3 player loaded with Elvis songs.

  8. if you want to get her something physical, get her an elliptical for her legs and stuff or a new really relaxing squishy mattress for a better back or something.
