Question:

What should I get to upgrade my car stereo?

I for sure need to get a new head unit. I want to hook up my ipod to it. I have a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser, and I'm not looking for some psychotic sound system, but something that is a step up from the stock. If I want a decent set of speakers, how much do I need to consider spending? Should I upgrade front, rear, or both? After the head unit and speakers, should I get an amplifier or a subwoofer? And what the h**l are tweeters? Also, is it difficult to install by yourself? If not, how much does a professional installation cost?

  1. in my opinion, just get a new headunit (stereo) and only upgrade the front speakers for now.

spend on some good component speakers for the front doors, it will give a better sound quality too. if you do not want to spend alot of money on a set of components, check out MB Quart. i have had very good experience with their products.

they are able to get loud, great sound quality, and dont get too distorted as the other speakers. these come with a speaker for low-mid bass frequencys, a tweeter (which is used for higher-end frequencies such as vocals in a song), and they also come with a small crossover. all in all, its a great buy.

once you install this, if you are not satisfied with the outcome, purchase a 4-channel amplifier to power your door speakers. this will make them even louder, give them a more "bump" and sound cleaner. but remember to stay in the range of the rms watt ratings with the amplifier on the speakers you will be connecting. if you go way too high, the speakers will get blown.

usually this setup is great for sound quality goals without wanting a loud bump or to spend too much money.

about the installation, you could do it but if you do not feel safe, its better to get a audio shop to install your equipment.

  2. u should get some good speakers for bof da front and back and tweeters are wat get da vocals

and if u want bass get an amp and some subs and 2 install jus get a friend dat u hav dat does dat kinda stuff and if not at a pro place it depends on wat they r doin

  3. If you do not know what you are doing, do not try it on your own. crutchfield.com is over priced and only a starting place for beginners. Try your local car audio shop.

  4. I've been looking into this myself. After doing some searching I came across www.crutchfield.com. Go there. They have live customer service. I'm planning on buying a $120 headunit with ipod hookup, a set of tweeters and 2 6.5" speakers for a little over $200. Free shipping and manuals and tools/equipment come free with purchase. Check that out
