What should I get when there is no place to s***w in a lightbulb?

In my new house there is no place to s***w in any light bulbs. In my old house there were sockets to s***w them in on the ceiling, but the ceiling in my new house is just bare. Can you suggest any lamp or lighting fixture that can light up a whole room WITHOUT having to be connected to my house's electrical system by making a hole in the wall?

If you want something that lights up but isn't connected to the house electrical system, it'll have to be battery operated. If you can plug it in to a wall outlet, a hanging lamp would do the same lighting job as a ceiling fixture.
