  1. i would make shore i know all the different parts of every kind of tack you can think of so you know what the person is talking about.but good luck.

  2. what type of saddle for different disciplines

    - jumping, western or dressage etc.

if the saddle would be too narrow for say a quarter horse or to wide for a little pony.

    Sizes - adult, teen, child

    I'm not sure.

    hope i helped

  3. I would make sure you understand all the products you will be selling, and have experience using many of them.  For example, if someone comes in looking to buy a martingale, you should be able to suggest the correct one for what they need.  Another good skill is fitting helmets.  The helmet should be snug (but not give the person a head ache).  If they shake their head it should not slip off, there should be no room to fit fingers in on the sides, etc.

Since you're only 13, you shouldn't expect to have a really prominent role in the store (hopefully you will though).  Also, check with your state's/country's regulations on underage labor.  I know I wouldn't be able to get a job at my local tack shop when I was 13 for two reasons: you need to be 16 to work a public job in my state, and I doubt the store would have hired me.  So if you don't get hired, I wouldn't get discouraged.  Apply again in a few years.

But anyways, the most important things are that you're friendly, helpful, and you don't act like a know it all (I hate it when I go to a tack shop and the people are telling me what or what not to buy based on their assumptions.)

    Good luck.

  4. i would learn all you can in not only the tack you also want to look up different saddles makes and how to fit them on a horse, rugs and harnesses, reins and numnahs, saddle maintenance, riding clothes and boots, a good knowledge in the different brands may help, also look up repairs on all these things as they might offer a repair service, but you might want also show a good knowledge in horse keeping and their care, i know you may be dealing with equipment but a back ground knowledge will help you when advising someone what to buy, you also want to find out all you can about the saddlery you are applying to what they do , how they run the place, day to day jobs and know who the key people are, most of all be your self and be confident best of luck hope you get the job

  5. Do you know how to advise a customer to measure his/her horse for saddle tree type?  Can you explain the difference between an arab tree and others?  Can you explain the angles of trees, gullet sizes, and the different riggings?  Do you know the physics of the bits you will be selling, and when or why one might be chosen over another?

Do you know how different pads are used and why they are chosen?

I won't go on and on, but I expect a person working in saddlery to be expert in these things.

Never mind....I just realized you are only 13...all you need to know is how to be polite and willing to learn, and to work, and you will be fine.

  6. All the parts of saddlery. i.e: parts of a saddle.

How to tell if a saddles tree is broken.

How to value a saddle and other gear , if in a second hand saddlery.

Types of Saddles, Bridles, Bits ect.

    Types of leather.

In some cases, how to repair tack.

Rugs would be a major thing. such as sizes and matieral ect.

There are lots of things you will need to know but i think you should ask your employer what is expected of you before you apply.

    Best of luck.
