  1. wpnwilo1 made most of the good points that I could think of. Do you want to raise the money for a specific cause (charity etc.) or do you just want the money to finance you boat expenses?

  2. Realistically, how many people will see the ad?

  3. probably you should be sponsored by somebody who has something to do with boating, not by a company that has to do with surfing. If you're proficient, sponsors will come to you

  4. I'm assuming you are using this boat for competitions.  Include:

The specifications of the boat (name, size, number of people manning it, etc.)

The competitions (where/when/why) you plan on entering with the boat.

Previous competitions you have entered (with/without this boat) and your results and your current rank (if applicable)

If you are willing to be included in adverts for your sponsor

What other sponsors, if any, will also appear on the boat

Personal and professional references (typed letters from each)

Finally, add a statement as to why you want their shop or brand as a sponsor (other than the money!).  Do a bit of research about each company you send this to and add your findings in the proposal.  Something like, "Your progress from a small shop on a beach to a successful national brand/shop is impressive; and your past advertising in XYZ magazine/tv show shows that you are serious about your business and your reputation."  This last sentence is only a sample and may not be applicable to your situation, but you get the jist of it.  Make it sound personalized, not a form letter sent out to 20 different companies!

    Good luck!
