What should I know about Kayaking?

I would like to take a Kayak tour through the La Jolla caves, but I am a little worried about how safe Kayaks are.

Do they tip over easily? Is there a certain amount of weight they can withstand?

  1. It depends on the particular kayak. Some tip very easily, while other are quite stable.

Most kayaks can support a lot of weight, but they're often pretty narrow; a "wide" person may have trouble fitting into one. The sit-on-top style of kayak is often easier to use for particularly tall or wide people.

  2. I think you should check and see if this trip is ok for beginners and if so I am sure it will be very safe for you. Be careful though kayaking can be very addictive but it wont damage your health

  3. If You're taking a kayak tour, your guide should provide the gear- And really, they don't want you to get hurt. Kayaks are easier to use than they look- You'll have to really work to tip it over or overload it.

  4. they dont tip easy at all you have to put in a lot of effort to tip one

  5. Kayaks are safe. Each individual kayak is rated with a weight capacity. When used properly, they are difficult to tip over. If you try to climb out of one or back into one in the water they are not stable. You basically remain seated in a kayak the whole time. the sit on top models allow you to move around a little or hang your feet over the edge.
