So I'm planning on buying a Hamster for myself. I dont know much about them and I would like some answers from experienced Hamster owners. So here are my questions:

1) Can I keep a Male Hamster in my Basement?

2) How often should I bathe him? What should I do so he dosn't

scrape me?

3) Do I need to replace the shavings? How often?

4) What kind of food do you recommend for it?

5) How long should I spend with it per day?

  1. Yuo can ask at the place you are getting it from and they should have a brochure that you can take along with you to tell you about how to take care of it.

  2. 1) yes they can

    2) give him a sand bth every week wen u clean him out (chinchill sand)

    3) yes every week

    4) any hamster food from a pet shop or some fruit and veg occasionally

    5) about 20 mins per day

  3. Well I have an adorable dwarf hamster I will tell you about her.

1)Yes you can keep it in the  basement just make sure its not too cold.

    2) I dont know about regular hampsters but you dont have to bath dwarf hamsters because they dont smell if you change the cage. and if you want to bath them I scrub mine with certain toothbrush.

    3) YES! you must replace the shavings other wise it starts to smell. I change mine 1-2 times a week.

    4) you can go to any petshop and they will give you the write food.

    5) you dont have to play with it EVERYDAY but what you can do (this is what I do) Lets say im watching TV I will just put it in my hands and make it "climb steps" with my fingers she loves that!

and I highly recomend a dwarf hampster because you dont smell like others and they are tiny and adorable! and very inexpensive

  4. 1) Yes, you can but a female would be preferable(less smelly!)

    2) You don't actually have to bathe them, I never bathed my hamsters and they were great! you could take him out of his cage using a cup though even if he does sratch you it doesn't hurt at all.

    3) Once a week i believe is the best time to change the shavings

    4) You will have to talk to the person or place that you are getting the hamster from. It all depends on the type of hamster.

    5) Hamsters actually do not like being held a lot. My suggestion is that maybe you can buy those balls that you can place him in so that he can roll around outside of his cage.

    Good Luck!

  5. 1-yes as long as it is not too hot or cold. any where from 60-80 degrees should be good

2-you do not have to bathe hamsters, they clean themselves; to keep the hamster from scratching or biiting you, you should hold it a lot and play with him so he gets used to you and trusts you

3-yes, about once a week or when they smell

4-regular pet store food-it will be labeled

5-as long as you can, around 20 minutes

they like to roll around in the plastic balls, too!
