I am going to Cancun for the first time next week. I am bringing my good camera and some equipment. I am also diabetic and must bring my supplies (insulin, syringes, etc.). Is there anything I should know about traveling with these things, and being there in general?

  1. I'm not sure about your medical supplies, but I doubt they will be a problem.  I know that it's sometimes recommended that people take a note from the doctor explaining the purpose, but that's usually for more controlled substances.

As for the camera, just be careful.  I would put it in your carry-on baggage, and always keep it close by.  Cancun isn't really a dangerous place, but it's always best to be careful with things.  I had my purse and camera with me when we were out, and never had any trouble.

One other thing to know is that you don't have to change your money.  Everyone takes American dollars.  Take small  bills because your change will be in pesos.

  2. Hi,

You have a couple of choices with your medications. One is pack as much as you can in your check through baggage.

With your carry-on make sure you have you doctors prescription with you. Place all your pocket items in a zip-lock plastic bag. The TSA does not like to handle lose items. All they have to do is look through the zip-lock bag.

If you are using a film camera make sure you don't send your film through with your checked baggage it will get zapped by the X-Ray. All your fllm should be with your carry-on.

Keep your valuable camera equipment with you as carry-on. The TSA will check it through.

You will enjoy Cancun, however, I really like Cozumel. You can get to Cozumel with a one hour bus ride to Playa del Carmen and a 1/2 hour boat ride to Cozumel. Anyway you do it you will have fun.

    Enjoy

  3. I have been living 7 years in cancun and  7 in the hospitality bussiness, 3 years main concierge of a fancy resort... I'm concern about your insuline, you should call to wherever you staying to find out if they have a refrigerator in the room, if not you coul consider one of those ice-packs, so you can keep it cold, other than that, get fun enjoy the vacation, take the basic precautions  you will take at any city, and specialy respect our rules, and laws, you might thing is Cancun but we have laws to obey.
