What should I look for in a student bank account?

I will be starting uni next year, but want to do a little research into the financial side of things now.

I've looked at a few websites, including moneysupermarket.com, but some of the lingo is confusing and I'm not sure what things i'll actually need from a bank account.

If someone could help me understand what everything means, and what i'll actually need, then that would be a great help!

PS: I'm not interested in credit cards - even if they are at a really great rate, i'd rather not even have one. I Don't like them.

  1. Not sure what you are asking. If you wanting to open a student account there are banks that have them available such as Bank of America.

  2. The most important thing to look for is over draft protection and low (or no) minimum balance requirement.

You'll receive a bank card to access ATM, where you'll conduct most of your transactions.

Like most students, you probably be concerned with fees rather than interest rates.  Look for bank accounts that do not charge monthly fee.  Many banks have special bank account for students such as these
