  1. Chemistry , Electricity , and physics .

  2. Go with green building... that's were the rubber meets the road!

The building is where the alternatives achieve the goal, and there is so much building to be done.

If you become a green builder, there is so much creative output potential that you can use in your job.

You can build green today, and get instant gratification.

The demand is growing among the better educated Baby Boomers that are down sizing and buying their last homes.

The housing industry will come back in about 2 or 3 years, and with what should happen on the political front during that time the demand can only increase.

My load bearing straw bale mentor built his first house five years ago, 1 house. He now has 10 under contract, and is turning business away in Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona because there is so much demand.

  3. architecture with minor/certificate/additional degree in sustainability or sustainable design.

some schools that i know of that offer such programs are u. of minnesota, boston architectural college, u. of sydney (australia), philadelphia university, and u. of florida, but there are more.

    good luck! :)

  4. Engineering, so you can make an actual difference.  The polisci, anthro, and geo majors all spend time in school so they can practice making espresso at Starbucks while they look for the 'right job' once they graduate.   Engineers actually build the stuff people use.

  5. That is what I majored in.

There are already several MSc in renewable energies.

There must be already something like 30 of them in Britain and 30 in Germany and new programms keep poping up all over the place !

You will need a strong background in mechanics, physics, chemistry, material science, power electronics energy economics, etc... AND THE MOST IMPORTANT: thermodynamics

I guess for your bachelor, several universities offer already energy technologies.

So far I know similar programms exist in the US in Boulder, Co.   California might also have something like this.

  6. Environmental Science, Maybe Environmental engineering

  7. Oceanography and tidal stream power generation. With all the tides flowing from on side of the planet to the other there's a h**l of a big lever in need of a fulcrum

  8. Geology.
